Room Darkening - in a bedroom

What To Consider In A Bedroom

When selecting window treatments for a bedroom, consider the following:

  • Do you like to sleep in a very dark room?
  • Are you concerned about noise reduction?
  • What are your needs for temperature control? Does your bedroom get really warm or cold at certain times of the year?
  • Do you like to watch TV in your bedroom and need to control glare?
  • Are you concerned about your furnishings fading from the sun?
  • What are your needs for privacy, can your neighbors see in?
  • How well do you want to preserve your views when the shade is lowered?

Midwest Window Solutions has many types of bedroom window coverings that address these needs.

Insulating Honeycomb Shades

Duette® Honeycomb Shades are a popular option for bedrooms, because they address a variety of needs. These shades offer a wide selection of opaque, light-blocking colors and fabrics and come with the added benefit of increased energy efficiency.

Duette's unique honeycomb construction adds a layer of insulation, preventing heat loss at the window and reducing outside noise, so you can sleep comfortably all year long.

New and Innovative Features

LightLock™ – Unparalleled Darkness
All of our Duette shades come with the new LightLock™ option, which almost completely eliminates light gaps. LightLock uses unique U-shaped side channels that overlap the front and back of the shades and blend seamlessly into the window frame.

Duolite® – Ultimate Flexibility
Most honeycomb shades only have one fabric panel and you control light by raising or lowering the shade. Hunter Douglas’ innovative Duolite® feature allows for more control by combining two fabric panels in a single shade. One of the fabric panels is made from a light filtering fabric and the other from a light blocking fabric. Both layers span the full width and height of the shade and can be moved independently.

Glare Reducing Shades

Roller shades are a great option if you want to achieve glare reduction and UV protection while maintaining your view of the outdoors. Roller shades also help with energy efficiency and room darkening, but to a lesser degree than honeycomb shades.

Designer Banded Shades are a unique new product from Hunter Douglas. These shades combine alternating sheer and solid fabric bands in a single shade.

Shades That Add Softness

Roman shades can add a soft and calming feel to your bedroom.

Vignette® Modern Roman Shades are unique in that they have no exposed cords, for a clean, crisp appearance (which also makes them a safer option if you have small children or pets). They’re available as either a flat or full fold that rolls right up into the headrail, or a full fold that stacks neatly below the headrail.

Vignette shades come in a wide variety of beautiful fabrics and colors, including room-darkening opacities. But you don’t have to settle for just one fabric: With the Duolite® feature you can combine a light-filtering front shade with a room-darkening back panel that both roll into a single headrail.

Shades That Filter Light and Maintain Your View

Softy filtered light has a magical way of giving your bedroom a peaceful, comforting ambiance.

Silhouette® Window Shadings are a unique type of window treatment, featuring S-shaped vanes that appear to be floating between two sheer fabrics. Simply tilt the vanes to achieve your desired level of light and privacy.

For bedrooms with particularly gorgeous views, consider the ClearView™ feature, which maximizes your view with a unique combination of front and back sheers.

Silhouette also comes with the Duolite® feature, combining a light-diffusing, translucent Silhouette shading with an integrated room-darkening roller shade.

solutions for large bedroom windows

If you like the look of drapery and want the flexibility to either block or filter light, consider Luminette® Privacy Sheers. This innovative drapery combines a sheer fabric facing with opaque, vertical rotating vanes affixed to the back of the sheer.

When the vanes are open, the sheer fabric diffuses and disperses the sun’s rays into soft, natural light. When the vanes are closed, the opaque fabric provides the privacy of traditional draperies. Just rotate the vanes to either block the light or direct it where you would like it.

Luminette® Privacy Sheers are ideal for bedrooms with large windows or sliding glass doors.

Blinds that block more light

If you like the look of blinds but are worried about light spots, many of our Hunter Douglas wood and metal blinds come with the de-Light™ feature, a rout-less design that hides cord holes and blocks light more efficiently.

The de-Light™ feature is available on:

  • Parkland® Wood Blinds
  • EverWood® Alternative Wood Blinds
  • Modern Precious Metals® Aluminum Blinds
